Last Breath is a surprising 'must-see’ movie for February.

In a world where early-year movies often get labeled as “throwaway” flicks, Last Breath (2025) totally flips the script with its intensity. At just 93 minutes, this survival thriller is based on a gripping true story about a crazy saturation diving accident in the North Sea.

Woody Harrelson nails it as the tough dive supervisor, Simu Liu is the stoic diver determined to rescue his fellow diver, and Finn Cole really captures the isolationist struggle for survival. Once things go south, the movie doesn’t hold back—every second adds more tension as they face running out of oxygen, crushing depths, and icy waters that make survival seem impossible.

Director Alex Parkinson does an awesome job creating an underwater nightmare that pulls you in. The tight setting and detailed production design make you feel every breath they struggle to take. And the sound design? It really amps up the mood—whether it's the eerie silence of the deep, the distant creaks of metal, or the desperate gasps for air, every sound drags you deeper into the film.

Unlike a lot of forgettable thrillers that drop this time of year, Last Breath is definitely one you need to check out. With its fast pacing and raw realism, it’s one of the most heart-pounding survival films you’ll see in a while. I definitely recommend you see this in a dark theater to experience the intensity this story delivers.
